Hello, all!
Wanted to post the current fittings for my Viper in hopes of getting feedback on it. Also hoping that someone would be willing to explain more about how power management works if you end up going over the "Available" power limit. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

I already plan on upgrading the Lightweight Alloys Military Grade and want to upgrade the Pulse Lasers to class 2 Pulse Lasers and would like to get my Thrusters and hopefully FSD to A3.

Hello CMDR!
The Viper has a limited power supply and is best rigged depending on what your using it for pvp/pve.
In terms of pve and RES site farming I would say remove the fuel scoop, downgrade life support, and fit those class 2 pulses ;-).
Power management is turning off or changing priority of a module. The cargo hatch can be turned off completely, whilst FSD, chaff, KWS and SCB can be set to priority 3, Priority 3 means the ship will turn these off whilst not in use (different fire group) so when your weapons are out, the others turn off and when you cycle the next fire group they turn on again. It takes some experimenting to find the the right combination, luckily you don't loose money changing outfitting. You might want to try swapping the chaff for a shield booster, with pve a more passive defence would probably work better. ;-)
Hope this helps a bit I'm about to help anytime.

Personally for PVE I would use the Cobra, it's superior to the Viper in many respects! It has more power, more internal slots, better heat efficiency, huge jump range / fuel tank in comparison. and once you get the hang of it is just a deadly as the viper, and is better suited to piracy than the viper as you can carry cargo, limpets, cargo scanner, FSD interdicter etc with ease
The viper for sure has better hard point placement, maneuverability, and shields (but the cobra can be fitted with shield boosters and more SCB's because more power and internal components to compensate) but its more suited to entry level PVP(not piracy) and PVE but it's not good at anything else
The cobra can also be used to dabble in Rare trading and makes a solid entry level explorer, and is great for Mission grinding for +rep.
It was my first "proper ship" and still keep it parked up for a rainy day.

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably look at replacing my Viper with a Cobra. I think I have about 2 million credits into my Viper, so I could sell it off and start fitting a Cobra. Might be nice to switch it up a bit as well. Just bought a Type-6 yesterday to start playing around with trading until I can afford to get into an Asp or Vulture.

Good to hear your trying different things! I loved the type 6 and if you find a good route it won't be long until you afford the type 7, which is still the fastest way to a Python, the asp can carry more cargo than a type 6 but is far more expensive, for that reason I skipped the Asp and went into a type 7.

Only made a couple short trips in the Type 6 so far and am still looking for a good route. Also pulled the trigger on parting out my Viper and buying a Cobra. Gonna work on upgrading it as funds become available and use it as a break from trading to break up the monotony.

That's a great plan, I am currently trading with a couple of others your welcome to join is and reap the benefits of trade dividends! There are numerous tools available for trading that can find routes automatically. It takes a bit if fiddling but once you know how are a valuable arrest...the fastest and one of the best I found is Quazils astro analytics "do a search for elite dangerous qaa tool" and if your on later I'll talk you through the specifics and we can wing up ;-)
