So how you go about selecting the best weapons is a little confusing to me. Can someone explain the lettering and numbering of the weapons to me so I can make better informed decisions.

So how you go about selecting the best weapons is a little confusing to me. Can someone explain the lettering and numbering of the weapons to me so I can make better informed decisions. The Letter designation is the rating. A is the best rating, Z would be bottom of the barrel.
So, an A-Rated Gimballed pulse laser, would do more damage and make better energy use than a D-Rated Gimballed pulse laser of the same size.
The Number designation, is the size. 1 is small, 2 medium, 3 large. You then couple that with the rating, however size does matter. Lets say a D-Rated pulse laser size 3, will do significantly more damage than an A-Rated size 1. Cause even though it's a good laser, it's still a smaller weapon/beam than the size 3.
Also, the weapon size causes reduced damage against larger vessels. For example a size 1 pulse laser gets a %33 damage reduction versus medium ships, and a %66 damage reduction versus Large vessels. I think this might also work in reverse, for example a size 3 pulse laser, seems ( and should ) do more damage against a small vessel like sidewinder or eagle.
